Overview
Cosmetology allows you to express your creativity while you learn the latest techniques in hair, nails, skin, and make-up. The Cosmetology program consists of 1,550 hours of study that can be fulfilled within 45 weeks. A full-time student attends classes a minimum of 35 hours per week.
Objectives
The objective of this program is to prepare the students for the state licensing examination in Cosmetology and to provide appropriate and comprehensive training. Graduates of the program will be employable as salon service providers, salon sales representatives, salon owners/managers, business managers, industry educators and freelance artists.
Instructional Methods
The program is taught using several different types of instructional methods such as textbook curriculum, hands-on techniques, demonstrations, classroom learning, visuals, and research.
Curriculum
The State of Iowa requires 1550 hours of instruction in the Cosmetology program. The 1550 hours consist of a minimum of 590 hours in demonstrations and lectures and 960 hours in supervised practical instruction.

Equipment, textbooks, and supplies furnished by the school for use by each enrolled student are included in the list below. These become the property of the student. The student will be responsible for replacing lost or damaged equipment and materials.

Outside expenses to be incurred by the student are as follows:

Payment
Payment Schedule Options
Method of payment for application fee, equipment kit, textbook, and tuition are as follows:
- Paid totally in advance. (All students receiving government assistance, loans or grants will follow this
payment schedule). - Paid in installments of $3,000.00 the first month, $2,284.00 the second month and $2,125 per month for eight additional consecutive months.
If a student fails to complete the course in 53 weeks, the student will be charged at the rate of $12.75/hour for additional instruction.

Graduation & Licensing Requirements
Upon successful completion of 1550 hours, all academic requirements met and financial obligations satisfied, the student will be issued a diploma. Upon successfully passing the State Board Exam at a designated testing center, receiving a diploma, and applying/paying for state licensure; the student is awarded a Cosmetology License in the State of Iowa.Iowa Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Arts and Sciences
