Leave of Absence Policy
A student must follow the Leave of Absence (LOA) policy in requesting a LOA
- A student may be granted a Leave of Absence (LOA) for any of the following reasons: medical, jury duty, mitigating circumstances beyond the student’s control, or at the discretion of the school director. There must be a reasonable expectation that the student will return from the LOA. A student must request and complete a “leave of absence request” form from the school director for the LOA to be considered.
- The Leave of Absence must be a minimum of thirty (30) days and approved in writing by the Director, in advance (unless unforeseen circumstances prevent the student from doing so), to include the reason for the request and include the student’s signature.
- Emergency LOA’s, without prior written request, may be granted due to unforeseen circumstances. The beginning date of the approved LOA would be determined by the school to be the first date the student was unable to attend the school. The “Leave of Absence Request” form must be completed at a later date. The school will document the reason for granting a LOA due to unforeseen circumstances.
- ISB will not assess the student any additional instructional charges as a result of any approved Leave of Absence.
- ISB will extend the students’ contract period by the same number of calendar days taken for the Leave of Absence and will also extend the maximum time frame of the program the student is enrolled in.
- In the case of a Leave of Absence, an Addendum will be signed and dated by the student and an ISB representative and attached to the original Enrollment Agreement Contract.
- A student granted a LOA that meets the criteria is not considered to have withdrawn, and no refund calculation is required at the time the LOA is granted.
- Cosmetology Program: Only one Leave of Absence is allowed in a twelve (12) month period. The maximum time frame is one hundred and eighty (180) days.
- Exception: The school will permit more than one Leave of Absence in a 12 month period provided that the total number of days of all LOA’s does not exceed 180 days in any 12-month period.
- Cosmetology Program: Only one Leave of Absence is allowed in a twelve (12) month period. The maximum time frame is one hundred and eighty (180) days.
The remaining programs are as follows:
- Massage Therapy: 30 days minimum and 65 days maximum
- Esthetics: 30 days minimum and 60 days maximum
- Nail Technology: 30 days minimum and maximum
Transfer students in the Cosmetology program: 30 days minimum and maximum=60% of contracted Program hours converted to days: program hours maximum days
- Equipment left at the school during a Leave of Absence is NOT the responsibility of
the school. - A student returning from a leave of absence or other official interruption of training will return to school in the same Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) status as before their departure. If a student fails to return from a Leave of Absence, the school will terminate the enrollment contract immediately. All remaining charges due to the school will be the responsibility of the student. If a student does not return from a LOA or takes an unapproved LOA, the withdrawal date for the purpose of calculating a refund is the student’s last day of attendance.
- This institution treats as an approved LOA:
- One Leave of Absence after the initial LOA if the subsequent leave of absence does not exceed thirty (30) days and the institution determines from the student/parent that the subsequent leave of absence is necessary due to unforeseen circumstances;
- OR Sequential LOA’s as approved leave of absence if the student can document that the LOA is for jury duty, military reasons, or circumstances covered under the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA).
- Leave of Absence Request forms are available from the Director or Financial Aid Administrator.
