Before choosing ISB, my biggest challenge was choosing to follow my dream and passion without fear and finding a secure job, all while being a mother. You never know where the beauty industry can take you it’s always ever changing and there’s room for elevation at all times.

ISB is not just a place to get an education, it’s a place to grow, to learn, to build, and achieve. The feeling of accomplishment never fades away as I look back on every day I spent learning, growing, and building. As a mother and a student and facing so many challenges throughout my time in beauty school it wasn’t always easy but the staff at ISB were more than happy to accommodate me any way they could to make it smooth sailing. You really do get out what you put in.

Before attending Iowa School of Beauty, I was choosing between ISB and another local cosmetology school. I had heard amazing things about both schools. When I visited ISB, I felt right at home. Everyone was so comforting and welcoming, and I knew this was the place to start my adventure and future career.

After attending ISB, I knew 1000% that I had made the right decision. Your classmates become your closest friends, your instructors become your biggest supporters and always help with any challenges along the way. Your clients become some of your favorite people to see weekly and catch up on previous chats. Some even seem like you’ve known them your whole life. If I could go back and make any changes, I would have gone to school for this sooner. I can’t even put into words how much I loved ISB and the “family” I gained.

I started my first job two days after graduation and was mind blown by how busy my salon in a small town was. I do chair rental, which means I have to bring in my own business. The thought of being a new stylist and having to bring in my own clientele scared me so bad. But I got extremely busy, fast. I was up to date on the new techniques and hairstyles that are in and that put me ahead of more experienced stylists.

If you are really passionate about the beauty industry and have a love for people and making them feel beautiful, then go for it! ISB will make you feel so at home and so welcome. I honestly enjoyed going to school almost every day, and it was something I looked forward to after the weekend.

Prior to attending ISB, my daughter Kamrie and I were running in-home daycares, which has its challenges. My other daughter Mia was fresh out of high school with a passion for beauty and makeup. She was too shy to adventure this path on her own, so she convinced all three of us to enroll at ISB! At first, I felt a little out of place as a non-traditional student, but before I knew it, I was just one of the girls. The experience is one I will cherish forever with many fond memories. We have now opened a small family-owned business in downtown Des Moines featuring skincare and hair. I would encourage everyone to attend ISB! It was one of the greatest groups of people I’ve ever met. From the instructors to the director and ladies in financial aid, I have had an experience there that is dear to my heart.

Before attending ISB, I worked for a Fortune 500 company with a great salary and benefits, but I dreaded work. I craved a more positive and creative environment. After attending ISB, I knew my life would never be the same.

Every day I look forward to something new and exciting. I was finally excited about my future and felt 100% ready to start my new career. I believe ISB gave me the best training I could have asked for. Later in my career, when I managed a salon and started recruiting, my top stylists were often graduates of ISB. Right out of beauty school they performed as if they had been in a salon for years.
