Attendance Policy - Iowa School of Beauty
  1. School starts at (See start times for your class and location). All students are required to be in class or on the clinic floor at that time.
  2. A student must attend school on a regular basis to maintain a standard rate of satisfactory progress (no less than 67%).
  3. If for any reason a student is absent from school, it is the students’ responsibility to call in and speak to an Instructor before class start time in order for their absence to be excused. Disciplinary action by the Director may occur if a student fails to call in or if a student calls in and speaks to someone other than an Instructor.
  4. Arrangements for time off of more than one day must be made in the office at least one day in advance. All absences will be noted in the appointment book and the daily call-in sheet.
  5. Please try to schedule doctor appointments, personal business, and other appointments on days not scheduled.
  6. If a student is leaving school any time prior to the scheduled end of the day, the Staff must be notified. When leaving early, it is the student’s responsibility to make sure their station is clean (regardless if they used it) and to see if they have an assigned duty.  Instructors will check to see if both have been completed before the student is dismissed.
  7. The attendance policy for anyone receiving V.A. benefits is as follows: If a student misses seven (7) consecutive days, their V.A. benefits will be interrupted.  The student may be reinstated after counseling with the school Director concerning their progress.

Tardiness

  1.  Students are allowed two (2) tardies per month, with no carryovers.  Students must call prior to their scheduled time.  Exceeding the two tardies per month may result in disciplinary action.
  2. All students are expected to be punctual for classes, clinic work, and lunch breaks.

Tardiness in any of these areas will count against your monthly tardies.

  1. Everyone is expected to be in class or on the clinic at start time of class. If you are not in the classroom or on the clinic floor at start time, you will be counted tardy. This tardy will count against your regular monthly tardies.
  2. After the completion of basic training (for all courses except Massage Therapy), all students are required to attend practical class one day per week.  Your class day will be posted.  All students are required to be in the classroom by class start time.  If you are not in the classroom at the beginning of class with all the necessary equipment needed, you will be counted tardy.  Again, this will go against your tardies for the month.  If practical classes are missed, make-up work is required.

Time Clock

  1. The time clock is to be used to record ALL HOURS. Students must punch in when they arrive and out when they leave.  Make-up hours are given with the approval of the Director.
  2. While clocked in, all students are required to do assigned appointments. If you are unable to complete an appointment, an Instructor must be notified before the student is dismissed.
  3. Students are not allowed to mark themselves out on the appointment book.
  4. No one is dismissed from school until duties are completed and checked by an Instructor. No one is to leave until the scheduled end of the day unless they have made prior arrangements.  Credit is given only for time clocked.

Policy on Time Clock

  1. Students will go directly to the time clock and punch in upon arrival at school.
  2. Students will punch out when leaving. Early dismissals are to be approved by a staff member prior to punching out.
  3. If a student forgets to clock in or out, it is the student’s responsibility to report it to the staff on that day and indicate what happened. If this can be confirmed, either by class attendance sheet or appointment book, corrected hours will be put in the computer at the end of the day.
  4. An accumulated hours report will be generated on a weekly basis indicating the hours each student has been credited with for the week. The report will be handed out for students to review.  If a student disputes the number of hours shown, documentation must be provided (class attendance sheet, work schedule or appointment book) so the corrected hours can be credited.  This must be brought to the attention of Staff within one week of the report in order for the correction to be made, and must be initialed and dated by student and Director.

Additional Hours

Available after the completion of basic training in each course. See Director for details.
